Want to be as All-American as you can possibly be? Then buy a Jeep Wrangler.
The iconic ride was just named the most American car you can spend your dollars on, according to research conducted by Cars.com.
So how exactly does a ride get an “all-American car” title? Cars.com uses their American-Made Index to look at the vehicle’s manufacturing location, domestic parts content and the number of jobs supported by the production of specific models to determine its top picks. The economic impact of the overall sales figures for a model were also factored in, but the new rankings are geared toward informing consumers about the impact their specific purchase will have locally. Discontinued cars, or cars in their final model year before discontinuation, are ineligible.
The Wrangler is made in Toledo, Ohio, and the Wrangler Unlimited tied it for the top spot. The Jeep Cherokee came in second place. All engines and nearly all transmissions for the Wrangler and Cherokee hail from the U.S. Like the Wrangler, the Cherokee also was built in Toledo until April 2017, when production moved to Belvidere, Illinois.
There was some good news for Ford, too. Three of their vehicles made the top 10: the Taurus, F-150 and Expedition. GMC’s Acadia made the top 10 as well, while four Hondas rounded out the list. The Hondas named were the Ridgeline, Odyssey, Pilot and Acura RDX. You can see where all of these rides are made, below.
Jeep Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited (Toledo, Ohio)
Jeep Cherokee (Toledo, Ohio and Belvidere, Ill.)
Ford Taurus (Chicago)
Honda Ridgeline (Lincoln, Ala.)
Acura RDX (East Liberty, Ohio)
Ford F-150 (Dearborn, Mich., and Claycomo, Mo.)
Ford Expedition (Louisville, Ky.)
GMC Acadia (Spring Hill, Tenn.)
Honda Odyssey (Lincoln, Ala.)
Honda Pilot (Lincoln, Ala.)
What if you just want to buy a car that’s built in the U.S., regardless of any of these other factors? Cars.com has you covered for that, too. Tap the link here to see a full list of 2017 models currently assembled in the U.S.
